GHA won a competition in July 2000 to design Scotland's second children's hospice for CHAS (Children's Hospice Association Scotland). Robin House opened to families in August 2005. The building is located on a sloping site north of Balloch in beautiful rolling agricultural countryside, which falls within the boundary of the new Loch Lomond National Park. The hospice provides respite care for up to 8 children at a time and their families, with the necessary back-up facilities, admin and staff accommodation plus an education suite. The building is domestic in scale offering a warm and friendly atmosphere, yet is modern bright and fun. The accommodation is arranged around a glazed internal courtyard which houses brightly coloured play rooms. The majority of the building is low-key, single storey with a mainly timber façade, but over the entrance and day spaces an organic wave-form roof cascades down the hill creating an inviting entrance and vibrant day and play spaces.
