The
proposal for Greendykes combines a range of housing types and new facilities
within a framework that draws upon the character of the local Carse landscape,
and relates to the surrounding areas and landmarks to create a new community
with a clear sense of place and belonging within the Stirling area. A variety
of housing types are proposed within the new settlement to create a range of
opportunity and character within the overall plan. To avoid a confusing 'sea'
of houses often associated with new developments, a clear street pattern is
proposed, gouping new houses and flats densely around the main street to create
a clear 'town centre', but gradually breaking down into more dispersed house
plots that sit individually within the landscape around the perimenter. The
pattern of streets running between the field lines allows safe play spaces,
walking and cycling routes to be interlaced with the access roads for cars and
public vehicles, whilst larger green spaces define distinct neighbourhoods within
the overall structure.
