Gareth Hoskins Architects submitted a competitive bid with Ogilvie Homes to develop the final phases of the award winning ‘Drum’ housing development in Bo’Ness, West Lothian. The proposal combined modern design with a traditional palette to create homes that are in harmony with the location while producing a distinct identity for The Drum. The design seeks to create a diverse community by designing a variety of house types that meet the wide range of demands from today’s house buyers. A formally laid out circus at the heart of the development facilitated the convergence of pedestrian routes, while delicately balancing the provision of an urban public space with defensible space in front of the circus homes. The strong form would become a landmark for the area while providing panoramic views across the Forth towards the Cleish Hills.
