This is a new departure for The National Trust for Scotland, combining contemporary design with their traditional role as 'keepers of the past'. The project involved the refurbishment and reworking of the interior of the grade A listed Halls to create a new exhibition gallery exploring the work of contemporary glasgow designers. GHA opened up the original spaces by removing various add-ons that had accrued over the centuries and designed a series of new display structures. Working with the film company Wark Clements, a series of short films were produced called "talking heads on glasgow". These are displayed on lcd monitors set within a 50m long undulating silver ribbon which weaves through the spaces, enticing visitors up to the existing grand first floor hall, which is now equipped with state of the art performance facilities.
