This project is the first phase of a £3m redevelopment of the Beaux Arts Govan Town Hall into ‘Film City Glasgow’, a ‘Creative Industries’ complex that provides affordable and flexible accommodation for smaller businesses within the creative industries that are involved in such areas as film and TV production, graphics, animation, web design, music and design.
The redevelopment for Glasgow City Council and Glasgow Film Office includes filming areas, production offices, film editing suites, sound editing suites and Glasgow’s first Dolby Theatre. The B-listed Beaux Arts Govan Town Hall is intended to be an environment in which these companies can exchange ideas, work together and grow to provide complimentary activities to the more established media companies likely to occupy Pacific Quay, which adjoins the site. Film City Glasgow also creates training and employment opportunities, and provides a sustainable future for this handsome listed building. Gareth Hoskins Architects completed phase 1 of this project in 2004.
