Four Winds Hotel and Office Development
Pacific Quay, Glasgow

Engineering Firm Buro Happold approached Gareth Hoskins in 2006 to develop outline proposals for a 2200 sqm office building and a 120 bedroom hotel on their site at Pacific Quay, Glasgow adjacent to the listed Four Winds Building, where Buro Happold’s Glasgow office is based. Through their earlier involvement in the Pacific Quay masterplan Gareth Hoskins Architects were well placed to develop a proposal that would complement the ongoing development around the Glasgow Science Centre and the new BBS Scotland headquaters.

The proposals suggests a series of three distinctive buildings along the main road increasing gradually in height from the existing Four Winds building to the multistorey hotel. Whilst the office building provides flexible open plan spaces in a concrete or steel frame construction the hotel is proposed to be constructed using the pre-fabricated modular ‘Verbus’ system, based on the dimensions of steel shipping containers, which has been developed by Buro Happold together with George & Harding Construction.
