George Watson's College MasterplanEdinburgh

In 2012 Hoskins Architects were commissioned to prepare a masterplan for George Watson’s College’s 20ha. campus in Edinburgh. The masterplan was required to guide the design and development of the campus over a 15-20 year period and included proposed new accommodation for the Drama, Art and Health & Food Technology departments as well as improved school catering and sports provision.

The first masterplan project to be realised by Hoskins Architects is the new Junior School Dining Hall Extension. The project involves the extension of the existing dining hall facility and the refurbishment of an existing building which currently houses the catering kitchen. The large-volume dining hall, providing 420no. dining places along with new toilet accommodation and a large storage area, will be naturally ventilated with a large glazed elevation which can be opened up to provide a connection with the Junior School external play spaces. The hall is also designed to house a variety of other school activities including evening functions, parents’ cafe, after school club, pipe band and extra-curricular clubs.
