In 2001, Gareth Hoskins Architects were appointed to work with Ruchazie Housing Association to develop a Masterplan for the regeneration of the remaining undeveloped area of Lower Ruchazie. Rather than simply providing new housing within the identified site, GHA’s approach was to look beyond and to understand the wider issues, both physical and social, within the area of Ruchazie.
The Masterplan considers the boundaries of both the initial brief and the defined site to create a framework that coherently integrates with the Association’s first phases of redevelopment, and it addresses considerations and issues within the wider surrounding community of Ruchazie. This understanding of local issues had been developed through a process of consultation workshops and events involving the local communities. This process has benefited from the recent redevelopment that has taken place within Lower Ruchazie, allowing feedback from the local community to be assessed in relation to the pros and cons of the newly regenerated areas.
