Community Healthcare PPP Project
Alloa, Clackmannanshire

In 2005 Gareth Hoskins Architects and Keppie Design were part of a joint bid for the new ‘Health Care Campus’, in Alloa, Clackmannanshire. This included a Health Centre, Mental Health Resource Centre, Community Hospital and Day Centre for the elderly. All facilities were to be located on a challenging site, split into two zones by a cycle path.

Aware that a key community facility would be created, the focus was centred on the ‘patient experience’ and a ‘campus’ feel was developed around an improved public route, which made patients and staff comfortable and relaxed. The health centre was orientated to give the facility a distinct local identity; located on the busier part of the site where most activity would be taking place. The design created distinct public and private zones to strengthen the community feel and create the organisational structure required by the staff. The hospital and MHRC would be located on the quieter tree lined site to the North.
