Gareth Hoskins Architects were commissioned by the Glasgow Science Centre to extend their existing facilities, change visitor flows and update the image of the iconic Glasgow building.
GHA’s response to the brief was to create a bold new entrance along with a feature glass media wall, illuminated by high tech lighting, which gives greater prominence and a sense of drama to the Centre’s entrance. The main entrance was also repositioned to come in over the existing moat arriving into the Atrium space next to the planetarium sphere thus creating a more striking arrival to the centre. The ticket desks were repositioned directly ahead of the main doors in a more visual and practical position, and the existing shop was relocated into an extended link building. With this relocation of the shop, the atrium area provided ample space for queuing visitors in peak times as well as providing space for holding various events and a 400 seat flexible conference area.
