Gareth Hoskins Architects were commissioned between 2002 and 2003 to prepare designs for the reworking of this derelict B listed Victorian bathhouse within Edinburgh’s Old Town.
The brief was to create new apartments for developers the Burrell Company and EDI in the area of the derelict ladies pool facing Infrimary Street with studio and gallery space for WASPS Arts Charity occupying the main pool to the rear. The former boilerhouse on the corner would serve as a street level gallery space. Main features of the pool like the tall boilerhouse chimney would remain giving the mixed-used development a disctinvtive identity.
It was envisaged that the building would be purchased from City of Edinburgh Council and would combine private and lottery funding.
