A successful joint bid in 2005 by Gareth Hoskins Architects, Smith Scott Mullen and Broadway Malyan working together with the R3 Consortium to regenerate the Raploch neighbourhood of Stirling, located mid way between Stirling Castle and The Wallace Monument. The £120m development will be phased over 8 years with over 900 ‘eco homes’ due to be built, a first for a Scottish development of this size and scale.
GHA were presented with one of the most challenging sites in the selection of those to be regenerated, an isolated strip with difficult ground conditions on the edge of the redevelopment overlooking the River Forth, designated as a site for innovation in design by the redevelopment masterplan. The practice produced designs which would provide mixed density development and be orientated to make the most of the tricky site and get the best of the views. Due to the challenges of infrastructure and ground conditions it is planned that development on this site will be take place towards the end of the 8 year period for delivery.
