Situated to the North-East of Glasgow's City Centre, Ruchazie forms the western most part of Greater Easterhouse, one of the City's largest peripheral housing areas. The area, once dominated by austere, four storey tenements, often in an extremely poor state of repair, has been transformed by the demolition of this old stock and the reprovision of new, low rise family housing. Whilst these initial phases provided new housing for the Association's existing tenants that effectively encompassed half of the total area of Lower Ruchazie, they also highlighted large areas of redundant stock and land that remain a blight within the area. Through the process of working with the local community GHA have developed a Masterplan that addresses both the immediate area & the wider concerns to create a framework for regeneration. It suggests that the only way to prevent the existing confrontational aspect of the park is to unite lower and mid Ruchazie together by merging them into one cohesive whole rather than two diseperate entities.
