International competition winning project for the reworking of the entire Old Town site and collections of the National Museums of Scotland and Museum for Scotland. Proposals for this multi-million pound project involve a series of major architectural works to the Grade A listed complex of buildings together with proposals for the entire redisplay of the Museum's internationally significant collections, to be phased over the next 15 years. Building works include the strip out and opening up of the Museum's vaulted basement, linked to the pedestrianisation of Chambers Street, to format a new civic space and arrivals area for the Museum's many local visitors and tourists, and the demolition to the rear of the Museum to make way for a new 'landmark' building containing learning and multimedia spaces and tying in the wider civic proposals for the adjacent University of Edinburgh campus.
