The practice are currently developing designs for the south east quarter of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London as a result of a national competition win. The project involves the reworking of the existing grade 1 listed building and the insertion of new elements to create the new architecture and contemporary design galleries. The existing galleries are to be cleared of the various ad hoc additions that have been added since the museum was built in the 1850's, and its ornate marble, plaster and timber interiors refurbished throughout. A series of new openings are to be formed through the existing walls into the large storage areas to create additional gallery space. The new galleries are formed by a series of glass and steel contemporary elements clearly set against the historic fabric. The museum items and spaces are brought to life through a combination of lighting and computerised effects to create a vibrant new series of galleries.
