Construction of a community health clinic by Gareth Hoskins Architects has recently started on site in the Partick area of Glasgow. The design aims to promote awareness of healthcare in the community, with a strong street presence and a high degree of openness. The street facade comprises of a zinc clad "box" above a fully glazed ground floor. The hardness and scale of the zinc, and the window pattern responds to the neighbouring stone tenement buildings. The zinc box interlocks with an oak clad box, containing the treatment rooms, with oak louvres providing protection from solar gain to large south facing windows. The building also houses a nursery which opens onto its own south facing garden at the rear, protected from the noise and pollution of the street.
