Gareth Hoskins Architects Win Housesteads
Following a highly publicised national competition the National Trust and English Heritage selected Gareth Hoskins Architects to deliver a major reworking of the visitor experience and facilities for Housesteads Roman Fort on Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site. The aim is to enhance the significance of the exceptional site and this, the best preserved Roman fort in Europe. Along with the impressive team of engineers and landscape architects which delivered the award winning Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre, Gareth Hoskins Architects are well placed to deal with Housesteads’ complex and challenging demands.
Director, Nick Domminney, said, “We are delighted to take on this commission. Housesteads is a site of world significance and we look forward to working with the National Trust and English Heritage to deliver the world class facility which it deserves.”
National Trust and English Heritage intend to complete the new Housesteads visitor experience by 2012, coinciding with the UK’s hosting of the Olympic Games.
