The National Museum of Scotland was announced as winner of a Civic Trust Award and was one of only six entries, from over three hundred, to receive a Special Award at the annual ceremony on Friday 2nd of March.

In their citation the judges note: “The quality of the interior and exhibition give the building an international standing which one would expect to visit in any European capital city”
