Gary Johnson

Gary studied architecture at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. After qualification, he worked for a number of prominent Scottish architects practices before joining Gareth Hoskins Architects in 2002 as a Project Architect. Throughout this period, Gary was also a tutor in the Architectural Design Studio at Strathclyde University. In 2004, he was made Projects Director at Gareth Hoskins Architects and in 2008 he joined the board as Director.
Gary has worked on a number of award-winning buildings and he has considerable experience in the design and management of major projects, including high profile international competition submissions. As well as managing multiple projects, Gary guides design development through the practice’s design reviews and is responsible for the recruitment of architectural staff. In 2003, Gary helped to establish PLAYCE, an international organization of design professionals with the remit to engage young people in activities relating to the built environment and public realm. He is currently vice-president of this organisation.
