On Friday 10 July a hardy bunch from Gareth Hoskins Architects along with a group of friends set off for a weekend camping in the Lake District. The campsite was at Side Farm near Patterdale on a beautiful spot overlooking the end of Ullswater, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. The group took on various activities over the weekend such as hill walking and cycling (!) up Helvellyn, some more sedate walking on the hills around Place Fell behind the campsite, kayaking on and swimming in (!) Ullswater, and sailing on the Ullswater ferry, as well as the usual pub trips for eating and drinking! The weather was glorious on the Saturday but a little more grey and miserable on the Sunday, although this didn’t dampen spirits or hinder the activities. The trip, proposed as a midgie-less substitute for the annual camping at Glen Nevis, was a great success, with a return trip likely in the future.
