The Royal Museum, Edinburgh
Gareth Hoskins Architects have been appointed to lead the multi-disciplinary team for the re-development of the Royal Museum, Scotland’s national museum, for the National Museums of Scotland. Proposals for the £44.5 million project involve a series of major architectural works with a more accessible ‘street level’ entrance, new circulation routes to encourage visitors to discover more of the museum’s collections. The new team will now prepare for the stage two submission to the Heritage Lottery Fund, which is the detailed application to secure the £16.865 million grant already earmarked for the project. With funding in place, building work is planned to begin on site in 2007, which will be scheduled for completion in 2011.
