Competition Win: Mid Yell School, Shetland

Gareth Hoskins Architects in collaboration with Peter Johnson Partnership, a Lerwick based architectural practice have won an invited competition to design a new £6m junior high school for Shetland Island Council, on the island of Yell.

Yell, the second largest of the 100 plus islands in Shetland, is linked to the mainland by ferry service only. The original 1960’s school, the only junior high school on the island, will be demolished and replaced with a new building, which will need to be durable and robust to withstand harsh weather conditions. The brief is to create inspirational spaces to enhance the learning experience for pupils of all age groups.
