International Design Workshop, Jurmala, Latvia

A joint submission by Gareth Hoskins Architects and landscape architects The Paul Hogarth Company, were runners-up in the master planning competition awarded by a judging panel co-chaired by the Latvian-American architect Sigurds Grava, emeritus professor at Columbia University.

Project director Liam McCafferty participated in the three day international workshop competition in Latvia, which involved 8 teams of designers, and were placed ahead of notable entrants such as the Dutch practice s333 and Zaha Hadid Architects. The brief called for the master plan of a 23.2ha site of outstanding natural beauty and national significance located on the Jurmala peninsula along the Baltic coast of Latvia. Designs were to include new housing, hotel, spa, leisure, marina and conference facilities. Our congratulations go to the winners, Henning Larsen Architects of Denmark.
